MCAS

MCAS

The Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) is a computer-based, next generation student assessment that provides clear signals to students, parents and educators about readiness for the next grade level and college or career.

The Massachusetts Education Reform Law of 1993, state law, G.L. c. 69, § 1D, requires that all students who are seeking to earn a high school diploma, including students educated at public expense in educational collaboratives and approved and unapproved private special education schools within and outside the state, must meet the Competency Determination (CD) standard, in addition to meeting all local graduation requirements.

2024-25 Update: The November 2024 ballot vote has resulted in the elimination of the MCAS as a graduation requirement for Massachusetts public school students. The Weymouth School Committee voted to approve amendments to the 2025 graduation requirements at their February 6, 2025 meeting. Please review the 2025 local graduation requirements »
